Holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, I am a practicing artist preparing to pursue a Master’s in Art Business or Arts Administration in Philadelphia. My studio background deeply informs my engagement with the business of art, driving my commitment to academic research and fueling my aspiration for advanced education. Reflecting this academic and creative growth, the work presented in this portfolio combines my photography practice with my broader visual art.

Hi, I’m Eva Engel.

…A visual artist with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design at Pratt Institute. My fine arts background has supported my growth and strengthened my devotion to design, guiding me to become experimental and open-minded to everything I produce. The work presented in this portfolio combines my concentration in photography with my practice of the visual arts.

What began as a young passion for taking courses at the Philadelphia Museum of Art has evolved into studies at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Tyler School of Art and Architecture, and the University of Tampa College of Arts & Letters.

Inspiration

Stylistically, my work is inspired by high-contrast lighting and cropped compositions. By isolating the subject with a tight crop, I remove environmental distractions to emphasize the work's textures and qualities. The deep shadows and bright highlights serve as focal points, creating a sense of simplicity.

Conceptually, my practice draws on art-historical theory and methodology; my paintings often engage with semiotics, while certain photographs reflect on open-ended reception, exploring both how we see and how we respond. In my paintings, semiotics are used to examine art through a feminist lens, balancing my own concepts with the viewer's perspective.
